Multitasking Version
Posted: Wed May 04, 2011 8:47 pmHi, any chance there will be a multitasking version of MLP available soon? It would be nice to have it running in the background to avoid timeouts.

I actually created this very version of MobiLinc back when iOS 4.0 was first released and Apple rejected it. As it turns out, Apple has some very specific rules about what they will allow to have a running network connection remain active once an app goes to background mode. It's really only limited to audio streaming apps. While MobiLinc worked fine in the background and didn't kill the connection, since MobiLinc wasn't streaming audio, Apple refused to approve this version.
We are finishing up the Android version of MobiLinc where Android has very little rules surrounding their apps. We tried to go back to the always connected scenario, but what we are finding is that over 3G, this always on scenario causes the battery to drain very quickly. As such we've designed MobiLinc for Android to also shut off it's connection to the ISY when the app is not in use to preserve battery life.
We are finalizing an update to MobiLinc that overhauls the backend code so that it should be more responsive and handle different network upsets better than the released version (along with other features). Hopefully this update will address some of your concerns.
