Voice Control

Postby FLSR » Tue Mar 04, 2014 10:57 am

I like the concept a lot but would like to see some enhancements. All of my comments are assuming that I know what I am doing. I apologize in advance if I my suggestions are the result of not understanding the plug-in.

I am using an iPhone.

1. I find it inconvenient to unlock my phone, open the app and turn-on the voice control. Voice control is great once I get it turned on. Frankly, it is easier to open the app and then just select my device or scene and touch the icon to operate a light if I am only working with 1-2 lights. It would be a lot more convenient if the voice control would turn on in the background whenever I unlock my phone. I use geo-fencing and your location services so I would further like to restrict the "auto on voice control" to those times when my phone is within the location zone.
2. I have some lights set to ramp to a set brightness, say 50%. I would like to have a voice command which would allow me to ramp up to 100% or even some other number between 1%-100%. Also would like to dim to a level that I would command. Dim could work by using the reductions % that are set into MobiLinc.

Hi FLSR,

1. We're making improvements to leaving the voice control on in the background, but what you suggest really isn't possible to do with the iOS 7. It might be possible to tie voice control to a geo-fence, but I can't make any commitments here due to the specificity of that feature. IE, quite a bit of work and not clear that everyone would see the benefit.

2. Currently Voice Control does not support setting specific dim levels: http://mobilinc.com/features/voice/

This is on our investigate list and do if it doesn't impact reliability.

It's not a perfect solution, but you can configure Mobilinc to enable voice control whenever the app is opened and then, when the phone is off, you can hold down the button and tell Siri "run mobilinc." If you have a PIN and don't have a fingerprint reader, you'll have to enter your PIN, but otherwise it's the quickest way I've found to get to voice control with a single button press.

Hi burke,

Thank you for your suggestion! Yes, this would work to "tie" it to a button press.

Hi FLSR,

If you haven't grabbed our .08 update, please do. You'll notice that we added in support for geo-fence and voice and well as direct dimming/bright, thermostat commands with voice as well as support for door locks with voice.
