How To: Verify SDM is communicating to the PowerLinc 2414

Checking the proper operation of the Smarthome Device Mananger (SDM) and Insteon PowerLinc :
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Windows XP find your local IP Address:
Click "Start"
Goto "All Programs", "Accessories", "Command Prompt"
Type in "ipconfig"
Under Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Copy down the IP Address 192.xxx.xxx.xxx <--- This is your LOCAL IP address

Use this address when checking your Device Manager and PowerLinc Controller.
Example: Type the following into your Web Browser http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9020/index.txt?isResponding
The response from the Device Manage "isresponding=True" if everything is OK
OR
You could just right click on the Smarthome Device Manager's "T" icon in the task bar and select
"Execute isResponding in Browser"

If the response is isresponding=False, try the following:
- Verify that PowerLinc is connected to the computer through USB or serial.
- Reboot PowerLinc by unplugging it from the outlet, wait 15 seconds, plug PowerLinc back into the outlet.
- Verify that the port that SDM is using to communicate to PowerLinc is correct. See sticky "Configure the USB/Serial port of PowerLinc 2412U/S".

Please Note: Notice that "http://localhost:9020/index.txt?isResponding" is
the same as "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9020/index.txt?isResponding" (above)

Please Note: The Local IP address is different from your router's "outside address"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Verify HTTP access to SDM
On the Windows-based PC running SDM:
- Open the Windows Registry Editor.
- Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Smarthome\SmarthomeDeviceManager
- If a key exists titled: "usehttp" verify or change the value to "true" without the quotes.
- Restart SDM.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Smarthome Device Manager does not start up automatically. (Normally another application program calls the Device Manager" to startup)
You have to start it yourself or put it in the startup file.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: For communication to the Smarthome Device Manager from outside of your network,
You need to "port foward" the default port of 9020 in your router to the computer
hosting Smarthome Device Manager.

It is highly recommended to configure the Username and Password in MobiLinc and SDM
so that only MobiLinc has access from outside your network. See sticky on configuring
the Username and password in SDM and MobiLinc.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Minimum Insteon hardware for MobiLinc:
Qty Description

1 2414U (USB) or 2414S(rs232 serial)
2 Access points with RF for powerline phase coupling & RF Insteon devices
1 Lamp or appliance switch module
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warning:Most ISP change the "outside router address" frequently - use a free service such as DYNDNS to bypass this problem.
