Support for SmartHomes 2412u

Will your iLinc software work with the 2412u? See my email inquiry to Smarthome that follows....

Reply from SmartHome....

Houselinc 2 uses a 2412U not a 2414.
HouseLinc 2 - INSTEON Desktop Software with USB Interface comes with a 2412u that's enabled for
Houselinc 2

If you purchase a 2412U separately it won't work with Houselinc 2.

Subject: PowerLinc Controleler 2414

Good morning,

I am interested in buying the PowerLinc Controleler 2414. Can you tell me if the

2412UH HouseLinc 2 - INSTEON Desktop Software with USB Interface

package has this model as the USB Interface?

Hi James,

To answer your question, no, iLinc only supports the PowerLinc 2414 and soon to be ISY 26/99. The 2412u is a modem device that plugs into a computer and relies on the computer software running to drive the Insteon commands. The difference between the 2412u and the 2414 is that the 2414 ships with a driver that acts like a web interface between the 2414 and iLinc (or any web browser). To my knowledge, the 2412u does not have an interface to support a web interface from third party devices such as iLinc.

Probably not the answer you were looking for, but I hope this info helps,
Wes

Wes, You answered my question. I will order the 2414 so I can use your iLinc software on my iTouch. Thanks for bringing this app to us.

Wes, doesn't the 2412n allow for a ethernet connection to a router and thereby allow for control with a third party device? If not, what is the difference between the 2412n and the 2412 u?

Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark,

You are correct, the 2412n does allow for a direct ethernet connection thus allowing a third party device to control it. iLinc could talk to the 2412n directly, but currently does not support it. The 2412n ships with an iPhone interface over the Safari web browser so I haven't focused on adding iPhone support to this device yet. I've been focusing on the other controllers (PowerLinc and ISY 26/99) that offer internet access, but no iPhone interface.

I know that the 2412n web interface isn't everything that everyone wants it to be, namely realtime status feedback. Sometime in the future I'd like to add support for this device if I can figure out how to get realtime status from the Insteon devices it commands.
