Internet connection issues

Postby jimbuttino » Sat Apr 02, 2011 11:46 am

I am currently using Conductor on both a Motorola Droid X and a Samsung Galaxy Tab. On both, I use it for both in-home WiFi and outside via the Internet and DynDNS. After installing the app, I was able to get connect the Droid X to my ISY99 via the Internet and successfully controll devices.

Subsequently turning on and connecting to it WiFi caused the appto lose control and monitoring capability – even if I switched the setting “Connection method” to “Plain text”. Turning off WiFi didn’t help.

So I turned off the WiFi still on the Droid X, I powered it off and turned it back on again. With a fresh reboot and operating on the Internet, I could not connect to the ISY on that device – all devices showed, but they reflected a status of “-“

I went into the settings and set the phone down for about five minutes to do something else. I then switched the “Connection method” to “Secure” and went back to All Devices, and noted that they must have updated their status, but I still could not control any of them. Twenty minutes later, I still cound not control any of them.

Note that using Conductor, I still had control, so that ruled out the possible HTTPS settings, IP address, or general communication issue. Also, I was still able to control devices using this app via WiFi on the Galaxy Tab.

Finally, I turned the Droid's WiFi back on and power cycled the phone. Everything worked OK on the WiFi. Apparently there are some issues with the Internet connection recognition, use, and switching from WiFi.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the detailed write-up. We will look into the connection switching issue and see what's going on here.

Do you have both the plaintext and SSL information filled out under My Settings? Also, under just Wifi can you confirm that both settings work when switching the Connect Method from Auto to HTTP or HTTPS?

Sorry for the delay. Using WiFi under the connection method of "Plain Text", everything is always fine. Simply switching the connection method to "Secure" and going back to device control gave no messages and each device status still showed, but I had no control.

Exiting and reentering the program gave the indication that it was unable to connect to the ISY. Setting back to "Plain text" fixed the control issue, but the device status now never updated, even if controlled through MobiLinc. Backing out, killing the app with a Droid app killer, then restarting caused the status to reflect accurately again and properly update when the device was controlled.

I then checked my current actual IP address and set that in your https:// address just to eliminate DynDNS from the mix. I also set the connection to "Auto detect". I then exited MobiLinc, turned off WiFi, killed the app, restarted the app, went to "All devices", and waited/watched/scrolled. They started to update (status), then in the middle of that, it said it could not connect to the ISY. Some devices were updated, others were at "-". The "Tap to synyc with ISY" always displays the updating screen but that's all it does with the https connection. Of course it works OK with WiFi.

Just so you know, I only put the IP address in the settings, not the prefix of http:// or https://. Also, I am using port 8443 for my https:// connection instead of the standard 443. Hope all this helps.

Hi Jim,

We've done quite a bit of work in this area since the first beta release, please give the next beta a try and see how it behaves in your environment: http://www.mobileintegratedsolutions.com/utilities/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=460
