Foscam R2 1080P

Hi,

I have been "burned" by the mobilinc incompatibility issue with the Insteon-branded version of Foscam's 720P camera (2864-222). It does not work reliably with the mobilinc app, but it does with the Insteon hub app. In reviewing threads on this board, it was stated that the firmware shipped in the Insteon model is old and nothing can be done...

So I am looking to purchase another camera but want to ensure that the mobilinc will work with my replacement. Has the new Foscam R2 1080P camera been tested with the mobilinc app? (http://www.foscam.com/r2.html)

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

Yes, the older INSTEON cameras were using a firmware from FOSCAM that had well known RTSP 3rd party incompatibilities. Very unfortunate. The new updated V4 INSTEON HD cameras work great with MobiLinc.

MobiLinc supports all FOSCAM cameras with RTSP (which should be all). I haven't personally tested against the R2, but others have reported success.

Thanks. Can you confirm how I would know if I have V4 of the insteon HD camera?

Look at the bottom of the camera. The version number is listed there.

Thanks for the quick replies Wes. I have the V4.0 of the camera. I can't get Mobilinc to work with it. Insteon hub connectivity works great remotely and locally. I also have an non-HD insteon camera that works great with Mobilinc. Any suggestions/ideas to get the HD camera working with Mobilinc?

I have tried all of the MJPEG profiles. I did have it pop up once briefly but never been able to connect since..

Thanks.

For the V4 camera you'll need to enable ONIV/RTSP in the camera's settings. Once this ONIV settings is enabled, look at the RTSP port number that's listed. It should be 554.

In MobiLinc's camera settings, enter in 554 for the local RTSP port in addition to all the other settings like IP, port, username/password for your camera.

Keep in mind that the camera only supports passwords up to 12 characters. Any longer and the camera will truncate to the first 12 characters for your password.

When you walk through the setup of the camera, JPEG should work. For MJPEG select "Do Not Use" since this camera does not support MJPEG streaming. RTSP should now work and Pan/Tilt should work if you try all the profiles to find one that matches.
