Status Only Device Keypad on iPhone but not on iPad

Postby GQuack » Sat Jan 13, 2018 2:08 pm

Greetings, I have an ISY controller and use Orchestrated MobiLinc on both my iPhone and iPad. On my iPhone for every keypad (6 button and 8 button), only the "A" button is controllable, every other button on every keypad shows up as a status only device. On the iPad every button on every keypad is controllable as it should be. What's happening?

Hi GQuack,

The KPL sub buttons are not actually controllable over INSTEON. This is a limitation to the INSTEON protocol. As a work around, what you do is you add these KPL sub-buttons to their own scenes and make the KPL button the scene controller. Then, resync MobiLinc and then when you tap the icon of the KPL sub-button, MobiLinc will turn the scene on which has the effect of turning the KPL button light on as well.

Hopefully that background helps.

Appreciate the reply Wes and I’m sort of following but I expected the behavior to be the same between the iPad and the iPhone. I do have scenes set up using the KPL button as a controller and on the iPad I can turn that scene on and off by hitting the graphic KPL button. But on the iPhone, that same button that I can hit on the iPad I cannot do anything with on the iPhone. Guess this is also telling me for consistency is to use the scene itself rather than the keypad for a favorite.

It should work the same way...assuming the iPhone is synced with your ISY.

Try this, open MobiLinc on the iPhone and go to Settings->Lighting Controller->Sync->Update Only. Once synced, go to devices and find a sub-button KPL. Tap the icon. You should see the scene that the KPL is a controller of turn on.

They do not work the same way, just synced both devices. Let's use the Lanai_Exterior_Keypad as an example. The "D" button is the controller for a scene which also turns on buttons "A", "B", and "C" along with their associated devices.

On the iPad I can tap the "D" button and everything works as expected.

When I bring up that same keypad on the iPhone all of the buttons except for "A" show as Status Device only.

Screenshots attached (iPad left, iPhone right)

Can you send these to support@mobilinc.com? For some reason, I can't see your iPhone screenshot.
